Atlantic Power Sales was formed in 2008 to provide excellent technical service for our customers and for the products and services offered by our principals. We partner with our principals and customers to provide the best technical solution for their projects and applications.

Our Team

Mark Lanier Atlantic Power Sales APS

Mark Lanier, P.E., received a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1989 and an MBA in 2007 from the University of South Carolina. Mark is a registered professional engineer in the State of South Carolina. From 1989 to 2003, he designed coal- and gas-fired power plant electrical systems at Duke/Fluor Daniel, a subsidiary of Duke Energy. He left Duke Energy to join Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc., as a field application engineer where he worked from 2004 to 2008 providing technical support for protective relaying products and customer training. Since 2008 Mark has led APS with Michael and John becoming a world class sales and service organization. Mark promotes solutions from all of the APS principals with Dominion SC, SC Electric Cooperatives, Municipals, Engineering Firms, and large industrials across SC.

Michael Boughman, P.E., received his BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Michael is a registered professional engineer in the State of North Carolina. From 1987 to 1999 he focused on substation integration and automation design and implementation at Duke Energy. He left Duke Energy to join Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc., as a field application engineer where he worked from 1999 to 2008 providing technical support for automation/integration products and customer training. Since 2008 Michael has led APS with Mark and John becoming a world class sales and service organization. Michael promotes solutions from all of the APS principals with Duke Energy, Santee Cooper, SC Electric Cooperatives, Municipals, and large industrials across SC.

John E. Shelton graduated from Emory and Henry College in 1989 with a degree in business management and computer science.  He began his technical sales career as a manufacturer’s representative in 1991 calling on the Utility, Cooperative, Municipal, and industrial marketplace throughout Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC.  He has extensive product and application knowledge in the fields of protection, integration and automation, power delivery, test and analysis, and substation apparatus/equipment field service.  John joined Atlantic Power Sales in 2008 and along with Mark and Michael, has built APS into a world class sales and service organization.  John promotes solutions to Dominion Energy and select Cooperative and Industrial accounts in Virginia.

Neil Peterken Atlantic Power Sales APS

Neil G. Peterken graduated from North Carolina State University in 1994 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.  He has over 15 years of technical sales and application experience selling CAT power generation and control systems to commercial, government, and manufacturers throughout eastern North Carolina.  Neil also has extensive account and project management experience and served on dealer advisory panels to various Caterpillar factories.

Brian Whitacre received a BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering in 2010 from North Carolina State University. From 1999 to 2005 he worked for utility contractor E&R Inc, where he helped install underground and overhead utility power equipment.  He started working with PowerServices as an intern in 2008 while obtaining a degree from NCSU, working primarily in the field, testing and installing new relays. After receiving both degrees he started full-time with PowerServices from 2010 to 2017 designing, installing, and site commissioning of new relay and communication projects.

D. Ray Cheek graduated from Wingate University in 1985, earning a BS in History, BS in Education, and a minor-in Psychology. He taught and coached High School for 2 1/2 years prior to changing careers. He spent over 27 years in the Metals and Aerospace industry, in Sales and in Management responsible for North America and part of Europe.

Ray joined APS in October 2014 and currently covers Western NC and Southwest Va.

Jeremy Watson earned his B.S. in Paper Science and Engineering from North Carolina State University in 2014. He began his utility career with Duke Energy (Legacy Progress Energy) in 2003 and held several positions in operations, nuclear maintenance, and engineering. In 2014 he began working as a process control engineer in a Virginia paper mill where he focused on distributed control systems associated with turbine generator controls, boiler controls, and supported their utility system. In 2016 he joined Central Virginia Electric Cooperative as an Automation and Control Engineer responsible for multiple projects associated with maintaining and upgrading their substation RTU’s, transmission and distribution protection and automation schemes, and SCADA. Jeremy became a part of the Atlantic Power Sales team in November 2018.

Adam Collier – Adam started his utility career with Prince George Electric Cooperative in early 2008, as an apprentice lineman, and received his journeyman certification in 2012. His hands-on experience with overhead and underground distribution systems led him to becoming an engineer technician in 2018.  For the remainder of his years with PGEC, Adam managed the cooperative’s substations, overhead apparatus and SCADA systems, along with the protection and automation equipment associated with them.  He also handled projects related to AMI, outage management, load control, and served as president of the safety committee for one term.  Prior to his career with PGEC, he worked as an operator and diesel mechanic on his family’s farm and was a parts manager at a local tractor dealership.  Adam joined APS in October of 2021 and currently covers southeast Virginia and northeast North Carolina.

Eddie Williams, P.E.

Eddie Williams, P.E. earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University in 2009. He began his career with Schneider-Electric Square D as an applications engineer for motor control centers. Eddie then pivoted to industrial automation controls, designing and programming turnkey PLC-based control systems for process chemical, gas recycling, burner management, and other industrial manufacturing verticals. In 2017, Eddie launched the Charleston, SC branch of a southeast systems integrator, providing electrical design, automation programming, secure remote networking, database integration, panel design/build, and installation/commissioning services. He obtained his Professional Engineering License in Electrical Power in 2018. Eddie joined the Atlantic Power Sales team in October 2022, supporting utility and industrial customers in South Carolina.
